Europa League Quarter-Final Predictions and Betting Tips

AC Milan to Beat Roma

  • 📅 Thursday 10th April
  • ⏱ Kick-Off 20:00 GMT
  • 🏟 San Siro, Milan

Unfortunately for Italy’s bid to rival England and Germany for UEFA’s extra coefficient spots next season, one of AC Milan or Roma will be crashing out in the last eight.

This all-Italian clash – although in slightly different circumstances – is perhaps easier to predict than most given we have plenty of recent history to go off.

Roma have been one of the most consistent sides in Europe in recent seasons, qualifying for the semi-finals of this competition in 2020-21 before finishing runners-up last year. With a Europa Conference League title sandwiched in between, AC Milan will be wary of the threat they pose.

However, not since October 2019 have Roma toppled Milan, with the latter winning six of the nine subsequent head-to-heads including both of this season’s meetings in Serie A.

Add to that AC Milan’s purple patch of late – a run of seven wins in a row – and everything points towards a first-leg advantage for the hosts.

Bayer Leverkusen to Beat West Ham and Both to Score

  • 📅 Thursday 11th April
  • ⏱ Kick-Off 20:00
  • 🏟 BayArena, Leverkusen

This could well be Bayer Leverkusen’s toughest fixture yet, and one that could genuinely test the tensile strength of their unbeaten status.

West Ham’s spellbinding 5-0 victory over fellow Bundesliga outfit Freiburg sent a stern warning to the rest of the competition, with this their third consecutive season in a European quarter-final.

The Hammers’ pragmatism and work off the ball – which although frustrating to some West Ham fans – has proven hugely effective in cagey, tense European affairs.

It led them to their first piece of major silverware in 40 years last season, and we expect this quarter-final could be much narrower than bookmakers are anticipating.

They have scored in eight of their last nine games in all competitions, and we expect they will find a goal away from home – just as they have done in all but one of their Europa League fixtures this season.

However, Bayer Leverkusen has shown time and time again this season that they simply can not, and will not lose. The best example of this came in the previous round against Qarabag, where Patrick Schick’s injury time brace ensured they progressed in the unlikeliest of circumstances.

That laboured victory should inspire hope for West Ham, but they come up against arguably Europe’s preeminent side this year, who are yet to be beaten across all competitions.

Benfica to Beat Marseille

  • 📅 Thursday 11th April
  • ⏱ Kick-Off 20:00
  • 🏟 Estadio da Luz, Lisbon

Rounding off our quarter-final tips, we are expect Marseille to have plenty of work to do when they return to France next week.

Rangers did make it far from comfortable in Lisbon for Benfica in the previous round, but Marseille find themselves in troubling form.

They were fortunate to have won their last-16 first leg by four goals, after Villarreal mounted a spirited comeback in the return fixture, winning 3-1. That kickstarted a torrid run of form for Les Phoceens, who have lost all four of their recent matches in all competitions.

It now means they sit as low as eighth in Ligue 1, and 10 points off the top four.

Benfica will be eager to bounce back from a morale-crushing defeat against local rivals Sporting, who scored an injury-time winner last weekend to edge in front in Liga Portugal’s title race.

The hosts have far more recent European experience than their opponents having qualified for the last eight of the Champions League two seasons running, and we expect them to prevail in this first leg.
