‘Taking steroids is pointless for boxers unless they want to gain weight’
In an exclusive interview with https://www.luckyblock.com/, former world boxing champion Sven Ottke believes using steroids in boxing is pointless and would have hindered his career.
Ottke, who finished runner up on Ich bin ein Star in 2020, revealed that he reckons the feeling of hitting a hole-in-one at golf is comparable to an orgasm.
He also explained why he’s a fan of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and why he prefers the English Premier League to the Bundesliga.

Taking steroids is pointless for boxers unless they want to gain weight
Sven Ottke, who boxed at middleweight and super middleweight, was never tempted to take anabolic steroids because gaining muscle would’ve have hindered his attempts make weight for his fights;
Sven Ottke: “Some boxers use anabolic steroids to gain muscle mass, to gain weight, to move from cruiserweight to heavyweight, from middleweight to light heavyweight and so on. Other than that, I believe they are pointless. I never had any trouble gaining weight. On the contrary, I always needed to lose weight before a fight. If I had taken steroids, I would’ve gotten bigger arms – and I would’ve needed to lose even more weight. I mean, I had to lose six, eight, ten kilos anyways. So.. with steroids… using them would’ve killed me.”
Golf is like sex and a hole-in-one is better than an orgasm
Since hanging up his gloves Ottke has dedicated his spare time to playing golf and he has falled head-over-heels in love with the sport. In a hilarious comparison the former boxers reveals that in some ways hitting a magnificent shot on the course is like having sex;
Sven Ottke: “There’s lots of boxers who play golf after the end of their careers. I am addicted, I am totally crazy about golf. It just gives you so much. When you hit an amazing ball.. that’s almost like an orgasm. When you play a hole-in-one, that’s incomparable. Or when you hit the ball out of a bunker and it falls on the green and slowly rolls into the hole. That’s just amazing. When I hit a golf ball like that, everyone on the course knows about it.”
Diving puts me off Bundesliga, the Premier League is honest
Ottke says he enjoys watching Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp and prefers the style of football England produce in the Premier League because there is far less diving that happens in Germany’s Bundesliga;
Sven Ottke: “I’m not a hardcore-fan, but I do like to watch English football. I’m a big fan of Jürgen Klopp and I really enjoy it when Liverpool has a great season. I really wish him all the success in the world, he’s a great guy. And they play a great game of football as well. It’s a different kind of football compared to what we play in Germany in my opinion. Over here, they fall over at the slightest contact. So I feel football is a bit more honest in England.”
