Wales vs Poland Preview: Back The Hosts To Scrape Euro Qualification In Playoff Final

Poland and Wales have one last chance of qualifying for the Euros this summer, with the nations going head to head in a winner takes all playoff on Tuesday night. Ahead of the match, we have the latest match odds as well as a full preview and Poland vs Wales betting tips.

Wales vs Poland Preview

Tuesday’s game between Wales and Poland is a winner takes all affair, with a spot at the Euros this summer up for grabs.

Wales eased though their first playoff game over the weekend with a comfortable 4-1 win against Finland, booking Rob Page’s side a spot in one of three playoff finals.

The Dragons finished four points behind Croatia and Turkey in their Euros qualifying group, which left them with plenty of work to do if they are to qualify in the summer.

A win for Wales would earn them a place in group D alongside France, Netherlands and Austria, which could prove to be the toughest group at this year’s tournament.

Poland have qualified for the past four instalments of the Euros and they are at risk this year of not qualifying for the first time since 2004.

The Eagles smashed Estonia in their first playoff game, but Lewandowski and co will know that their clash against Wales on Tuesday will be nothing like their first game.

Poland shocked everyone when they didn’t automatically qualify for the Euros, with Albania and Czech Republic upsetting the odds to earn a place on the plane this summer.

Wales vs Poland Betting Tips and Predictions

  • Wales To Qualify @ 71/100
  • Ethan Ampadu To Be Booked @ 7/4

Wales To Qualify

Although they come into the game as marginal underdogs, we are backing Wales to qualify for the Euros over Poland who we think are going to struggle at the Cardiff City stadium this week.

Wales were dominant against Finland and it took them just three minutes to take the lead last week, with David Brooks putting the hosts ahead in emphatic fashion to kickstart a near-faultless evening in Cardiff.

Goals from Neco Williams, Brennan Johnson and Daniel James finished off Finland in a resounding 4-1 win, which should inspire plenty of confidence heading into this playoff.

Recent head-to-heads do favour Poland, as these nations last met twice in the Nations League in 2022, where Wales succumbed to defeat in both.

The Dragons have almost a fully fit squad at their disposal ahead of the playoff, while Poland deal with some serious injury blows such as Aston Villa’s Matty Cash.

Wales are unbeaten at home in their last five games, so the hosts will be confident they can get a result against Poland when they return to Cardiff this week.

If the tie is level at full time there will be extra time and penalties to contend with, and although it might go the distance, we still think Rob Pages’s men will keep their cool at home.

Wales are 71/100 to qualify for the Euros with Lucky Block’s latest Wales vs Poland odds.

Ethan Ampadu To Be Booked

Ethan Ampadu has picked up 12 yellow cards for Wales in 50 games and we think he could get another this week against Poland.

Ampadu will no doubt play in midfield for Wales again this week with his opposing players likely to be Piotr Zielinski, Jakub Piotrowski and Bartosz Slisz.

This season Ampadu has been handed eight yellow cards in 38 games for Leeds in the Championship.

With this being a playoff final all yellow/red cards are wiped immediately after, and with qualification on the line, we are anticipating plenty of cynical fouls from both sides.

Daniele Orsato is the referee for Tuesday’s game and the experienced Italian has averaged 4.76 yellow cards per-game throughout this season.

Ampadu is 7/4 to be booked with the latest Lucky Block Wales vs Poland odds.

Wales Team News

Rob Page has almost a full squad at his disposal this week and the XI that starts against Poland on Tuesday will no doubt be Wales’ strongest lineup.

Joe Low, Ben Cabango and Wes Burns were all forced to pull out of the squad with injuries ahead of Wales’ 4-1 thrashing against Finland.

Daniel James has a chance of starting against Poland after impressing off the bench in the Finland win, but Page is likely to name an unchanged XI.

Wales Predicted Line-Up: Ward; Davies, Mepham, Rodon; Roberts, Ampadu, J. James, Williams; Brooks, Wilson; Johnson.

Poland Team News

Aston Villa’s Matty Cash featured off the bench in Poland’s win against Estonia last week, but the fullback lasted just ten minutes before he was forced off with a hamstring injury that is set to keep him out vs Wales.

Frankowski was another fullback to come off injured against Estonia and although the injury seemed minor, the defender missed training over the weekend and is facing an uphill battle to be involved against Wales.

Poland Predicted Line-Up: Szczesny; Kiwior, Bednarek, Dawidowicz; Bereszynski, Zielinski, Slisz, Piotrowski, Zalewski; Swiderski, Lewandowski
